Tai Po Water Treatment Works (TPWTW) of Water Supplies Department (WSD) is one of the largest water treatment works in Hong Kong and won the 2006 International Water Association (IWA) Project Innovation Awards Global Grand Prize Winner in the Design Project Category. Commissioned in 2003 with an initial capacity of 250,000 m3/day, the water treatment works covers an area of about 10ha and has an ultimate capacity of 1,200,000 m3/day. The expansion of TPWTW project represents WSD’s vision to enhance the reliability and flexibility of the water supply and distribution system. Further to the expansion in 2011, the capacity of TPWTW is expanded from 400,000 m3/day to 800,000 m3/day under this project. Upon completion of the project, the fresh water supply zone of Tai Po WTW will cover Tai Po, West and Central Kowloon and the Central and Western districts of the Hong Kong Island. The completion of the expansion is targeted to be in mid 2018.
