To mark World Water Monitoring Day, over 100 students participated in the event. Under the guidance of chemists from the WSD, the students used the standard kits for testing the quality of raw water taken at the inlet of Ma On Shan Water Treatment Works by measuring four basic indicators – temperature (℃), acidity (pH), dissolved oxygen (ppm) and turbidity (JTU). Guided tour to the water treatment facilities were also arranged for the students afterwards in order that their understanding of the plant and process for water treatment could be enhanced.
The test results showed that the raw water taken from Ma On Shan Water Treatment Works reached the temperature of 30 ℃ high. The average values of pH and dissolved oxygen level of water were 7 and 4 ppm respectively while the turbidity stayed at 0 JTU in general. In conclusion, the quality of this raw water source was in good condition.
