WSD receives NEC Sustainability Award of the Year 2022 - Highly Commended

Water Supplies Department (WSD) has won the NEC Sustainability Award of the Year 2022 – Highly commended for the grey water treatment plant project at the Development of Anderson Road Quarry Site.

This award recognizes WSD’s efforts to minimise impact on the environment in terms of carbon emissions, and build resilience to climate change in alignment with government carbon reduction targets.

The proposed grey water treatment plant at the development of Anderson Road Quarry Site is the first ever district-based grey water recycling system in Hong Kong which will treat the grey water collected from the developments for toilet flushing and other non-potable uses.

The encouraging result depicted the determination of the WSD in implementing NEC through achieving collaborative partnership to ensure the long-term sustainability of Hong Kong’s water supply. WSD will continue to expand the use of recycled water, including reclaimed water, treated grey water and harvested rainwater, for toilet flushing and other non-potable uses under the Total Water Management Strategy 2019 to save the precious fresh water resources.
