Principal Functions and Duties :

• Administer leak detection, reservoir safety and prosecution
• Oversee the amendment of the Waterworks Ordinance and Regulations and prosecution of offenders under the Waterworks Ordinance and Regulations other than those related to billing matters
• Oversee the research and development in the Department
• Provide professional statistical support

Development(2) Division

Principal Functions and Duties :

• Make forecasts of the overall water demand of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region
• Monitor actual demand and evaluate the adequacy of the existing supply and distribution systems
• Recommend programmes for development of additional water resources and/or additional waterworks installations
• Administer supply planning, asset management and accommodation
• Oversee the emergency contingency plans

Water Science Division

Principal Functions and Duties :

• Manage the operation of the department's laboratories and radiation screening centres
• Deal with all matters relating to the quality and treatment of water resources, the control of pollution in gathering grounds and the ecology of impounded waters
• Ensure that potable supplies conform to satisfactory and internationally recognized standards of quality
