Pak Kong Water Treatment Works Open Day

In order to let the public have a better understanding of the water treatment process and enhance their awareness of water conservation and protection of water resources, an Open Day was held on 6 December 2008 (Saturday) at the Pak Kong Water Treatment Works, which was open to public visit for the first time. It attracted over a thousand visitors. The visitors comprised students from primary and secondary schools, tertiary institutions; representatives from professional bodies, owners’ corporations, property management companies and community groups etc. This showed that the Open Day gained wide range of support and participation.

Visitors were guided for a technical tour to have a closer look on various facilities of the treatment works. There were also exhibitions of different topics on site including Total Water Management Programme, Water Science, Replacement and Rehabilitation of Water Mains Programme, Meter Workshop, Leakage Management Section and the Quality Water Recognition Scheme for Buildings. The guided tour helped visitors have a better knowledge of the water treatment process and the services and duties of the department.
