Introduction
The Voluntary Water Efficiency Labelling Scheme (WELS) is a water conservation initiative of the HKSAR Government. WELS intends to cover the common types of plumbing fixtures and water-consuming appliances. Products participating in WELS will incorporate a water efficiency label that will tell consumers the level of water consumption and water efficiency to help consumers choose water efficient products for water conservation. WELS has been implemented in phases for different groups of plumbing fixtures and appliances. The first group of products for implementation of WELS is showers for bathing which has been implemented since 10 September 2009. The second group of products is the water taps which has been implemented on 2 September 2010.
