Water Saving Practice for Trade Consumers

  1. Use manufacturing processes and equipment which ensure economy in water.
  2. Determine water requirement for each unit of production and introduce control checks on usage.
  3. Ensure that hot water pipe runs are as short as possible and that cold water pipes are laid clear of heated areas, heated equipment or steam-lines.
  4. Reduce water pressure to the minimum practical level.
  5. Carry out regular leakage tests on concealed piping and check for overflowing tanks, waste, worn tap washers and other defects of the system.
  6. Recycle water to the maximum extent -
  7. Use reject water for secondary purposes - water from some processes is still usable for cooling purposes, floor cleaning and yard washing.
  8. Draining, rinsing and spillage should be reduced to the essential minimum -
  9. Turn off systems at night and during holidays.
  10. Educate employees to save water by use of posters and other publicity materials.
