If you doubt the accuracy of the water meter, you may apply for a meter test with a fee. For a meter test, you need to complete an application Form WWO 542 PDF and return it to the Water Authority either in person, by post or by fax. Alternatively, you can directly make meter test appointment via our electronic services delivered in our website. For appointment made via electronic services, the Water Authority will issue demand note for payment of the meter test fee, together with letters inviting your attendance to remove the water meter and to witness the meter test. If the demand note is not settled within 7 days, the booking will be cancelled without any further notice. The amount of the meter test fee depends on the size of the meter to be tested, but for most meters, the fee is $530.

A meter shall be deemed to register correctly if its inaccuracy does not exceed 3% above or below the actual volume of consumption. If the meter is found to be defective, the test fee will be refunded and the water charges will be adjusted, if necessary. However, if the meter is found to be accurate, both the test fee and the water charges will neither be refunded nor adjusted. The replaced meter, whether subsequently found to be accurate or not in the meter test, will not be re-installed to the same premises.

Application forms for meter test are obtainable either in any of our Customer Enquiry Centres or through our website.
