Tai Po Water Treatment Works is one of the WSD water treatment works in Hong Kong achieving zero discharge of process waste water. All waste water is designed to be treated and recycled.

Tai Po Water Treatment Works is the second water treatment works in Hong Kong using ozone. The usages of ozone include:

RAINWATER HARVESTING

Rainwater is collected, treated and distributed for reuse within Tai Po Water Treatment Works. The uses include irrigation and flushing.


SAMPLE WATER RECYCLING

Samples of water at various treatment processes are collected and tested on regular basis to ensure water quality conforms to the Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality recommended by the World Health Organization.

These samples are recycled for retreatment or other uses to ensure the sustainable use of water resources on site.

SOLAR PANELS FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY

A 200kW photovoltaic system will be installed in Tai Po WTW for generating electricity for onsite uses.

Tai Po Water Treatment Works comprises 30% green coverage and a variety of green features using native species to create an aesthetically pleasant atmosphere that blends with the surrounding environment.
